EEA Family Permits

An EEA family permit is issued under reg. 12 of the Immigration (EEA) Regulations 2006. The regulation provides:

‘Family member’ and ‘extended family member’ are defined in regulations 7 and 8 respectively.

EEA family permits are documents similar to an entry clearance to the UK. They are to be distinguished from a visa or entry clearance issued under the Immigration Rules. Instead, EEA family permits are issued under the Immigration (European Economic Area) Regulations 2006. They are issued for six months and are free of charge.
